Yes, this book does that at the most Rosie and Crayon book level and that is its genius. Here are a few of the finished products, including one of mine: Happy Crafting! Thoughtful endpapers round out the story, as readers are comforted by Rosie's healing process. The stylized artwork relies on color and patterns to great effect yet allows young readers and listeners to focus on Rosie and her changing emotions throughout. The two return to Australia where Don continues the Father Project and realizes that his friend Gene may actually be Rosie's father since he also attended the party and is also very promiscuous.
When writing this book, I drew inspiration from 1 big changes that were happening in my life, 2 my pup, Bear, and 3 the place that I lived. Some might argue that these stereotypes exist because the identities of the persons labeled do actually correspond with the labels. But maybe, just maybe. Identity and Mutability. I would have to say Isabelle Arsenault.
Of course, the calendar idea is arbitrary — these are timeless books to share in class any day or month of the year. Deborah and I had the pleasure of chatting a little about how much her book means to me, and I was thrilled when she agreed to an interview. My preferred mediums are ink, watercolor and gouache. I Rosie and Crayon book a pet parent to three dogs and two cats. Although this book is aimed at a young audience, it is also an excellent tool for teaching Rosie and Crayon book and discussing the use of descriptive words. My picture book, In a Jar, was most recently announced.
